Phase 2 Cream Brick Structure Survey

City of Racine, WI, 2024

Researched and prepared by Planning Heritage and Design Partner, LLC, the purpose of this report is to provide an in-depth investigation of selected findings of the 2023 report titled "Racine Cream Brick Structures: An Inventory".

A detailed history is provided for two residential properties belonging to prominent pioneer families of 1800's Racine.

The report also investigates a neighborhood of unique cream brick structures constructed as worker housing in support of the war effort during WWII.  The homes display a theme and variation on designs developed by award winning architect Carl J. Kastrup AIA (1901-1951).

Finally, the report contains an analysis of structures within a multi-block area adjacent to an existing cream brick workers' cottages National Register Historic District.  These structures lend themselves to expanding the existing adjacent historic district, or being recognized as pocket districts or individual landmarks.
